Happy New Year 2006

The Dreaded New Years Resolution and Christmas Wrapup

Can you believe 2006 is right around the corner? I’ve decided this year I’m not going to make a list of a dozen things I want to do next year because I already have my 101 in 1001 list to work on so unofficially, because if I make it official it might as well go right out the window now, my two new years resolutions for the upcoming year is to work on as many items on my 101 list and to learn to do things that make me happy. You know that passion for life we all aspire to at one time or another? Well I’d really like to see how close I can come to doing what I want to do this year..not what society dictates. More on this later.

Thanksgiving Weekend

Ack! I hadn’t realized I haven’t posted at all this week. I really have no excuse except being really busy and extremely lazy! The first half of the week was spent cleaning house and buying last minute items for Thanksgiving since we found out at the beginning of the week that my in-laws were coming up to visit for the day. Good news is I never cook for just two on holidays..leftovers are a necessity and a given 99.9% of the time.
The menu:

  • one 7 lb leftover-abundent honey glazed ham from Glazed Honey Ham Co.
  • my grandmother’s cornbread stuffing..I won’t eat anything else!
  • sweet potatoes..yum
  • green bean casserole..ok so I had no idea what to do for a second side dish
  • one can of black olives..in my families house this one is a must-have on holidays
  • cheese rolls from the same place as the ham
  • pumpkin pie..of course! :)

We spent the day relaxing, talking, watching movies. I only had one moment of panic when I was cooking dinner..putting the cornbread stuffing together I realized that I didn’t have any sage! Quick call to my mother and grandmother calmed my fears and I found out it wasn’t a “need to have” ingredient which turned out to be a good thing because my mother-in-law isn’t that fond of sage in stuffing anyways. We watched Polar Express before my in-laws left for the day. It is actually a really good movie but it seemed like it would be a little dark for really young viewers but older kids and parents may enjoy it.

Secret Santa Gift # 2

Secret Santa Gift #2 November 10, 2005

Secret Santa Gift #2 November 10, 2005

When I came back from lunch I found this on my desk. I made some observations over the last couple of days and I’ve narrowed my suspect list down to three potential people in the office.

Well I found out this morning that D has BB, who is one of our part time nurses, and who had him last year. She sent him on a wild goose chase for his last gift last year so I’m almost positive fate is intervening on this one!LOL The reason I know this is he asked me to write the To BB on the card he left with the gift.

Looks like K (our intern) has D because she asked me to be her lookout so she could leave his gift on his desk before she left this morning. So that’s two people I can mark off the list and walking past F’s desk yesterday he had the list out and B’s name was highlighted so that leads me to believe he has B, our receptionist, this year. I may be wrong so he may enter the suspects list again but we’ll see.

Current Suspects:
M – receptionist, A – nurse, N – business manager

Non-Suspects:
B – receptionist, the doc, D – nurse practitioner, K – intern, F – nurse, BB – pt nurse who hasn’t been in the office since Secret Santa’s began on the first of the month., and R – office manager (is out of the office today and tomorrow)

Coming soon: Gift # 3 (?)

Secret Santa 2005 – Gift # 1

Each year at the end of October my office pulls names out of a hat for Secret Santa Exchange  that takes place from November 1 through the day of the Christmas party in December.  So this year I’m going to post my gifts and see if I can figure out who has me this year.

Today I came to work and found a stack of books waiting on me.

Secret Santa Gift no. 1

Secret Santa Gift no. 1

The books in the stack are:
Shrine of Stars: : The Third Book of Confluence (Confluence, Book 3) – looks interesting..book three of a series though so if it’s any good I’ll hunt down the first two
The Stone Monkey (A Lincoln Rhyme Novel) – has possibilities.

New Spring : The Novel (Wheel of Time) – I haven’t read a Robert Jordon novel in ages so it will be nice to read on one of the weekends when it’s raining and C is watching football.

Suspects: A – a nurse, F – a nurse, R – office manager, D – nurse practitioner, M – receptionist
N – business manager
Why: They were in the office when I left work yesterday at 4.

Non-Suspects: B – Receptionist who was off work, K – front desk intern who leaves at noon, the doc – she had me last year and yesterday was her off day.

Coming soon: gift # 2

Happy Halloween!

Well it was a quiet night here..no trick or treaters for the second year in a row. We spent most of the evening watching ghost stories about haunted houses and absolutely loved the Halloween episode of Ghost Hunters on SciFi! It was actually just a little creepy but I love the science involved and the method of ghost hunting TAPS uses.

The party at work was fun..lots of complements from “cute” to “hot” to “why don’t you do your hair like that more often!” were heard throughout the day. Our office manager’s sister made homemade cheese enchiladas for lunch that were absolutely awesome! We had a very wide range of costumes from a pumpkin to a green M&M, a bottle of Ketchup to a Dallas Cowboy’s football player, and the doc came as a pirate! Tomorrow’s back to normal so I’m heading to bed. I forgot our digital so I picked up a disposable camera so I’ll post pics (of me at least!LOL)  as soon as I get them developed. We finally have leaves turning so maybe I can get some fall South Plains pics.

Happy Father’s Day!

Happy Father’s Day to all the dad’s out there..especially mine.

I haven’t updated in a while but I’ve been busy and I just haven’t had a chance to log in. As expected I’ve dropped off and I haven’t walked in forever and my house is still a little bit of a mess. July 1st I’m applying to M-TEC so since C and I are going to 7-4 starting tomorrow I’m going to see what I can do about getting the house cleaned completely. Cross your fingers I’ll have something more interesting to write about once I start taking medical transcription classes.

On a separate note C’s car is official. He has the registration sticker and license plates on the car. Though we need to get an estimate to repair the hail damage to his car. Four days after he bought it we had a storm with golf size hail at 5:30 in the morning(how’s that for an alarm clock?) and both the probe and mustang had some damage done to them. A friend of ours knows one of the shop owners in town who does paintless dent removal so once we get the estimate done he said he’d be happy to help fix the car.

Happy Mothers Day!

THANK YOU MOM

I know how often I took you for granted when I was growing up. I always assumed you’d be there when I needed you… and you always were.

But I never really thought about what that meant till I got older and began to realize how often your time and energy were devoted to me. so now, for all the times I didn’t say it before, thank you, Mom…I love you so very much!
